  1. After some analysis, this appears to be have a guardian of the dark realm concept. The jar containing a dead figure is housed by a black exterior wall, then guarded by a black skull and a box with sharp teeth ready to chomp at anything or anyone who tries to enter the structure to retrieve the specimen. Interesting use of the materials- aesthetically pleasing in many ways, especially the use of all dark, painted objects.

  2. The sculpture does seem to reference preservation but also the idea hiding and discovery. The skull is an element usually hidden behind flesh, the box is slightly and jaggedly open revealing its secret contents and the specimens view is obstructed by a bigger dark object, causing the viewer to wonder what it there and draws them in closer.
